Selecting a Wedding Gown
Informal Wedding - A formal, lacy suit or formal
street-length gown will be appropriate. There is no need
for a veil with this ensemble.
Semi-Formal Wedding - A floor-length gown with a
chapel veil or a tea-length/ballerina-length gown with a
fingertip veil will create the perfect look.
Formal Daytime Wedding - This style of wedding is
versitile in attire. A traditional floor-length gown may
or may not have a short train complimented with either a
fingertip veil or hat. Gloves are a nice accent to the
look.
Formal Evening Wedding - The same choices work for
evening as for daytime except that you may go with a
longer veil.
Very Formal Wedding - The best choice for a very
formal wedding is a traditional floor-length gown (pure
white or off-white) with a cathedral or extended cathedral
train. Add to that a full-length veil, long sleeves or
gloves, and an elaborate headpiece to create the picture
of elegance.
Wedding Party Attire
The wedding party's attire
should compliment your bridal gown. Make sure to choose
styles that would be appropriate for the type of wedding you
are planning. In warmer months, cool pastels, such as pink
or baby blue, are a wise choice. In cooler months, consider
choosing richer, warmer tones such as burgundy or navy blue.
Keep in mind all of the sizes and figures of your wedding
party when making your selection. The flower girl may wear a
matching dress to the attendants, a dress similar to the
bridal gown, or a lacy full-length dress with a sash that
matches the color of the bridesmaids' gowns. Don't forget to
choose matching shoes and jewelry, if necessary.
Selecting a Suit or Tuxedo
Informal Wedding - A business suit with a white dress shirt and a tie will work just fine. Black shoes and dark socks are the best accessories. Consider choosing darker colors for winter months and lighter colors for summer months.
Semi-Formal Daytime Wedding - In winter months, a dark formal suit jacket with dark trousers and a white shirt are a good choice. Accent this with a cummerbund or vest and a four-in-hand or bow tie, black shoes and dark socks. In summer months, the same applies but with a lighter color formal suit jacket.
Semi-Formal Evening Wedding - A traditional, black tuxedo with a plain white dress shirt and black bow tie and vest or cummerbund is most appropriate.
Formal Daytime Wedding - Try selecting a gray waistcoat or a cutaway or stroller jacket in gray or black. Striped trousers with a white high-collared (wing collared) shirt and a striped tie will complete the look.
Formal Evening Wedding - A black tuxedo with a white tuxedo shirt, a black bow tie, a cummerbund or vest, and cufflinks is a wise selection.
Very Formal Daytime Wedding - Take a look at a cutaway coat in black or gray with a wing-collared shirt, an ascot, and striped trousers with cufflinks and gloves to accent.
Very Formal Evening Wedding - Don't hold back! Check into a black tailcoat or white waistcoat with matching black striped trousers trimmed with satin. Add a white bow tie, white wing-collared shirt, patent leather shoes, cufflinks, and gloves.
